The forecast predicted lots of rain for our family session, but we lucked out and were treated to a warm (quite hot, actually), breezy, and sunny fall morning instead. I met the Hands family at Wolfenbuttel Park in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where we captured so many tender, playful, and joyful moments together.

A Hot Fall Day

As the morning unfolded and the sun beamed down on us, we found some shade beneath the beautiful pergola gardens, which framed the family perfectly. The open lawn, winding walkways, and large breakwater rocks gave us a wonderful variety of backdrops for natural, timeless images.

Their son—who is growing up so fast, I might add—was full of giggles and curiosity. We had so much fun exploring the shoreline and the park together. It was especially sweet to see that, even after all these years, Mom and Dad are still so completely in love. We even took a little time to capture a few moments of just the two of them.

Jumps and Giggles

Little Quinten’s favorite part of the morning was getting to jump on Mom and Dad! His smile was huge, and he didn’t want to stop—he was having way too much fun. These images felt extra special because of how joyful and carefree the moments were.

What We Captured

During this session, we captured:

  • Sweet, intimate family moments with their toddler

  • Playful interactions filled with laughter

  • Genuine, candid connection between Mom and Dad

  • Gorgeous environmental portraits featuring the varied landscaping and shoreline backdrops

It’s always amazing to see how nature and family personalities come together to create timeless images.

Why Family Sessions Are Perfect During Toddlerhood

Mini or full family sessions during the toddler years are so important for preserving this fleeting season of life. Between short attention spans and unpredictable weather, shorter, well-planned sessions often lead to the most natural and joyful photos.

Even on an unexpectedly hot fall day, a relaxed approach, a beautiful location, and playful movement help families feel comfortable and present—resulting in authentic memories that truly tell their story.

Tips for Families Booking a Fall Session

  • Embrace the weather: Hot, cold, or even a light drizzle can add a memorable layer to your session.

  • Plan outfits thoughtfully: Layers, textures, and personal touches photograph beautifully.

  • Choose locations with variety: Wolfenbuttel Park offers water, foliage, and landscape architecture all in one place.

  • Let kids explore: Playful, unposed moments are often the most meaningful.
