Rain or shine, James and Josie’s wedding at Western Lakes Golf Club in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, was filled with joy, laughter, and heartfelt celebration — a romantic day that proves love always finds the spotlight.

“Can I have everyone’s attention, please? We have a tornado warning in effect and will be keeping an eye on things, but please be prepared…”

Can you imagine hearing that at your wedding reception?

That’s exactly what happened at James and Josie’s wedding — and yet, the unpredictable Wisconsin weather only added to the magic of their day. Raindrops fell on and off throughout the afternoon, eventually leading to a full tornado warning by evening. But truly, none of it mattered. The joy and excitement from both James and Josie were electric and contagious. Their family and friends were there to celebrate — rain, wind, or shine — and they didn’t miss a beat.

A Couple Full of Heart

James and Josie are two of the kindest people I’ve had the privilege of working with. From our first meeting to the last dance, they (and their families) were gracious, warm, and so full of love. It was a joy to witness the way their guests celebrated them — not just as a couple, but as people. It’s no wonder they’re surrounded by such an incredible community.

Getting Ready with Personality

Josie’s gown was a stunning combination of elegance and warmth — delicate lace, a dramatic train, a deep neckline, and a classic A-line skirt that felt timeless. But the most touching detail? Her necklace, which featured a diamond from her mother’s engagement ring — a sentimental heirloom passed on to bless this new beginning with love and legacy.

Meanwhile, the getting ready suite was full of laughter. Josie and her bridesmaids belted out Lizzie McGuire anthems with a cold one in hand — the perfect sendoff to the aisle. On the other side, James and his groomsmen leaned into some pre-ceremony poker, with just the right amount of friendly competition before the vows.

Rain, Vows, and Indoor Charm

When it became clear that rain would stick around, the ceremony was moved indoors — and honestly, it couldn’t have been more perfect. The room was warm and welcoming, filled to the brim with friends and family. As guests found their seats, a “cheers bar” offering beer and champagne set the celebratory tone.

James and Josie exchanged heartfelt vows, shared laughter and happy tears, and officially began their forever surrounded by love — and not a single person missed the sunshine.

Portraits in the Rain and Romance

Western Lakes Golf Club offered a beautiful backdrop for portraits, even with the moody weather. Because I had a flexible photo plan in place, we made the most of every dry moment. We captured joyful portraits between the raindrops, used the gazebo for shelter and family photos, and leaned into the romantic, stormy sky that added softness and depth to the entire gallery.

The wedding party looked incredible — bridesmaids in satin champagne dresses and the groomsmen in classic black suits, creating a timeless and dreamy palette. Cora’s Creations brought it all together with creamy, buttery florals — elegant roses and fresh eucalyptus that added texture and richness to every space. The ceremony florals seamlessly transformed into reception decor, tying the day together beautifully.

A Reception to Remember

The reception was bursting with life, laughter, and energy. Black and white table settings gave a clean, classic look — perfectly paired with a modern monochrome cake topped with chocolate-covered cherries and strawberries.

One of my favorite parts of the night was the grand entrance. Instead of just names, James and Josie introduced each member of their wedding party with heartfelt stories, inside jokes, and big hugs — a beautiful way to honor the people who stood beside them.

Dinner was fantastic (major props to the Western Lakes kitchen team), and then the dance floor absolutely took off. Spin City Events & Production brought the party with amazing music, lighting, and energy. They really know how to get a crowd moving!

A Perfect Ending (Even With a Tornado Warning)

Toward the end of the night, James pulled me aside and said something I’ll never forget:

“I was so nervous at the start of the day. I didn’t know how it would all come together. But now, looking back… it was better than I could’ve imagined or hoped for.”

And you could see it. Every smile, every moment — it all spoke to the love and joy they felt. That’s what makes this job so meaningful for me.

From James & Josie: A Google Review

"To say that we were lucky to have Natalie as our photographer is an understatement. From the very beginning, Natalie helped us through the entire wedding photography process. We had several meetings and check-ins leading up to our wedding, and she answered any and all questions we had. She was very thorough and took note of any special moments we wanted captured throughout our day.
Natalie was extremely easy to work with and helpful during the entire process. It was clear to us from the beginning of our time working with Natalie that she cares so much about the work she does! On the day of our wedding, there was rain and storms forecasted. Natalie was prepared for everything: she came with creative ideas, as well as umbrellas for outdoor photos in case there was some lighter rain.
Thanks to Natalie, my husband and I have stunning photographs to look back on from our wedding forever. She perfectly captured so many amazing moments from our special day. We couldn’t be happier that we chose to work with Natalie! She was absolutely amazing, and we would recommend her to ANYONE who is looking for an amazing photographer!"
