There’s something incredibly special about a sunrise engagement session—the quiet, the soft light, and the feeling that the world hasn’t fully woken up yet. Kaila and Ryan embraced all of it during their early morning engagement session at Seven Bridges Nature Trail in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Even with the cold, brisk air, their energy, connection, and laughter kept things warm from start to finish.

Sunrise on the Beach

We started the session right along the shoreline as the sun began to rise. The beach gave us a clean, timeless backdrop for more traditional—but still creative—engagement portraits. The soft morning light paired beautifully with the quiet waves and muted tones of Lake Michigan, creating images that felt calm, romantic, and effortlessly classic.

Despite the chilly temperatures, Kaila and Ryan were absolute troopers, leaning into close moments, shared laughs, and that natural ease that comes from being completely comfortable together.

A Playful Outfit Change (90’s JCPenney Vibes)

After our beach portraits, Kaila and Ryan changed into matching sweatshirts, and this part of the session took a fun, playful turn. Inspired by classic 90’s JCPenney-style poses, we leaned into silly expressions, exaggerated poses, and lots of laughter.

These images added personality and humor to their gallery and were such a great reminder that engagement sessions don’t have to be serious all the time. Mixing timeless portraits with playful moments creates a well-rounded story of who you are as a couple.

Ending With What They Love Most

To finish the session, we incorporated something that truly represents Kaila and Ryan: their shared love for motorcycles. Including their bike allowed us to capture images that felt deeply personal and meaningful, highlighting not just their relationship, but a passion they enjoy together.

These final shots were the perfect way to end the session—authentic, relaxed, and uniquely them.

Why Sunrise Engagement Sessions Are Worth It

Early morning sessions offer some of the most beautiful light of the day, along with fewer people and a peaceful atmosphere—especially at popular locations like Seven Bridges. Sunrise sessions are ideal for couples who want soft, flattering light and a more intimate experience.

Tips for Planning a Sunrise Engagement Session

  • Dress in layers: Early mornings can be chilly, especially near the lake.

  • Trust the process: Soft light + quiet surroundings = magic.

  • Bring outfit options: One classic look and one fun look keeps the gallery dynamic.

  • Incorporate personal elements: Hobbies, shared passions, or meaningful items make photos truly yours.
